From October 21st to 24th in Brazil, social organizations that work in all of Latin America will come together for the first time, encouraged by the value of universal fraternity inspired by Chiara Lubich.


The Focolare Movement is promoting this unprecedented meeting between the leaders of the social projects born in Brazil and in other Latin American countries whose work is inspired by the ideal of universal brotherhood proposed by Chiara Lubich ( 1920-2008 ). The event will be hosted at the National Center of the Focolare, the Mariapoli Ginetta (Vargem Grande Paulista - SP) from the 21st to the 24th of October . It will bring together 25 Brazilian social organizations and another 10 from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil , Chile , Colombia , Cuba, El Salvador , Ecuador , Guatemala , Mexico , Paraguay and Uruguay.

"The goal - as stated by one of the promoters of the initiative, Gilvan David de Sousa - is to identify the main elements of the charisma of unity which can contribute to the transformation of society and provide answers to the great questions of our continent". Sousa added that the meeting would mark "a new stage in the ongoing process towards the creation of a network between different organizations, aimed at fostering mutual enrichment  through  an exchange of ideas, experiences and difficulties and of having a greater impact on society ."

The main theme "Fraternity in action : the foundation of social cohesion in the twenty-first century ", is in keeping with the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the World Day of Peace 2014 : "Fraternity , the foundation and the path to peace ."

The theme of fraternity will be explored through the exchange of experiences and reports during working groups and later in four plenary sessions which will discuss: " The social question in the light of the Social Doctrine of the Church ," The charisma of unity and social issues in Latin America and the Caribbean , "" The charisma of unity and its implementation in the organizations of Latin America and the Caribbean ", “How social projects inspired by the charisma of unity can work together in the Latin American continent ."

Among the speakers there will be: Fr. Vilson Groh, founder of seven organizations in favor of inclusive education, who was recently awarded the Parliamentary prize Darcy Ribeiro for education; the Brazilian sociologist Vera Araújo , the person who is co-responsible at the international level of the Focolare Movement for the dialogue with culture, Susana Nuin, a member of the Commission for Social Communications of LAMEC and consultant to the Vatican Congregation for social communication .

From Italy Giuseppe Di Pietro, a member of the Central Secretariat of the New Humanity Movement will also be present.
